Embracing Old School Ideas in New Age Technology

There’s nothing new under the Sun

Embracing old school ideals in New Age Technology

The proverbial saying, There’s nothing new under the Sun is an apt way of summarising mouthpiece evolution. While there are many theories, mouthpiece myths and infamous hypothesis revolving around mouthpiece anatomy, the simple fact is that the answers for today are almost always found somewhere in the past.

The Ethos, Embracing old school ideals in New Age Technology, pays homage to the wisdom of those who, generations before us, had already paved a way forward in maximising performance.

Research & Development has focused on the area of ‘who played what when’ and aligning sound worlds with the characteristics of that particular era of playing and the equipment selected by the masters of yesteryears.

The David King Mouthpiece ethos is aimed at satisfying today’s cornet players seeking to simply produce a natural, compact and uniform quality of sound throughout high, medium and low registers while simultaneously achieving maximum flexibility and lip control with both fluency and consistency.

Retro Model - K.655-R

The exterior shape of the Retro model cornet mouthpiece has slimline skeletal walls designed to maximise positive ‘feedback’ to the player and a higher degree of responsiveness.

The Retro style Rim is medium-flat in contour facilitating and optimising greater resonance and response.

Artist model - K.655-A

The Artist model has the identical internal anatomical proportions and medium flat Rim contour as the Retro model (K.655-R) but with a heavier outside shell which provides greater weight in the core sound and consequently less upper frequencies in the overall personality and sound achievable.

** For players who prefer a more traditional cushioned rim, there is an alternative Artist model (K.655-ACR) which maintains the same internal anatomical proportions of both the recommended K.655 models but with a semi-curved wider cushioned rim and even heavier outside mouthpiece shell (64 grams) Special order only
